Description: Ever has your video and audio related software suddenly stops working after you install something?
DirectShow is Microsoft's multimedia playback architecture. It uses a modular approach and allows third party software install components (called filters) to extend its functionality.
The problem is, occasionally, a third party software would install something which completely mess up the DirectShow. When this happens, it is extremely difficult to trouble-shoot, for both the users and the vendors. This happens frequently with certain "codec packs".
DirectShow Detective is a simple software which displays the version and file path of each DirectShow filter, video compressor, and audio compressor on your system. By looking at this information, you can find out whether a standard filter or codec has been installed or removed incorrectly.
It is meant for power users and tech support departments of video and audio software vendors, and it is completely free.
